About Mrs. Jopski
I am so excited to be teaching 2nd grade again! I
am honored to be part of such a wonderful community of learners and families at
Walt Disney Elementary. I grew-up on the East Coast (Massachusetts, New Hampshire,
Pennsylvania), moved to Southern California for about 5 years, then to Northern
California and actually finished my High School years here in San Ramon. I’ve taught 2nd and 3rd grade, as well
as summer school for English Learners. Prior to becoming a teacher I received
my B.A. in Communication from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After
college I left Colorado and moved to San Francisco to follow a career in
Marketing. Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to teach, but was
always talked out of it. After years of working in the corporate world, I decided
it was time to follow my passion and get my credential. This is by far, the
most rewarding job I've ever had and I'm so happy I followed this path. I hope
this passion carries on through your children when they return home each day
and throughout the year as we watch them grow.
When I am not teaching, you can find me spending time with my amazing friends and husband, reading, cooking, visiting family and watching my favorite football team (GO PATRIOTS!!), as well as losing at fantasy football year after year. This summer was spent preparing a nursery for the birth of our daughter – who is due the first week of September! Due to the timing, I will not be starting the year with our class. I will return in January and look forward to meeting you all. I will be in touch with Ms. Dewey throughout these next couple of months and can’t wait to hear all about our amazing class.
MY PHILOSOPHY: As a teacher I am always hoping to motivate my students to believe in themselves and do better than they ever thought they could. My goal is to have my students come to school excited to learn and have fun while doing so! I hope to instill in them a love of learning, and create a classroom community that makes them feel safe – safe to make mistakes, be themselves and to push themselves. In our class, it is not my job to teach the students what to think, but rather how to think metacognitively. This will help students be more successful in multiple areas of their life. While working towards this, we will use technology and participate in hands-on learning experiences using cooperative groups to provide differentiated instruction.
